The candy corn file is super simple and straight forward.  There’s not a lot to it so it goes together pretty quick which makes it perfect for gift boxes or Halloween party favors.

Building The Candy Corn Base

The base is made of two identical pieces for the sides, and two pieces that close the bottom.  We started with the two panels that make the sides first.  We glued the to pieces together using the small tabs that are between each of the shapes, as shown in the photo.  Once one section was done, we glued it to the next panel and started again until we had glued all the tabs, making a hexagon shape.  This will give the bottom of the box the angled sides.

With the hexagon shape complete, we folded in the tabs on the bottom and added glue.  Then we dropped the bottom panel in and used our finger or the end of a pencil to press the piece into position at the bottom.

To finish the bottom of the box, turn it over and glue the other hexagon base panel into place to cover the tabs.

Starting The Lid

We then moved to working on the lid.  This piece goes together the same as the base panels, but it is much narrower.

The next segment will attach to the tabs running around the top of the hexagon you just assembled.  We started by gluing the long tab to one of the long sides on the orange panel.  Be sure to align it on the tabs so that the corners line up and it’s sitting along the fold line of the tab.  This will help it fit correctly and allow the lid to be properly formed.

Once this one is in position, add glue to the next two tabs and position the panel onto them.  When the glue has set, add glue to the two tabs, one attaches the next orange panel to the first, and the other to start attaching to the yellow base.

Adding The Top Layer

Continue to work your way around until this panel is fully secure.  The final step is to attach the last (white) panel.  This is just one piece to go all the way around.  Start with one end, we preferred the longer panel that has a tab on the end.  Whichever you start with, be sure it matches the panel, the hexagon shape is elongated in the middle so be sure you don’t have a short paired to a long section or vice versa.  Work your way around until the white panel is secure.

The final step is to close the top of the candy corn lid.  Fold in the tabs at the top and put glue inside then place the hexagon panel to close off the top.  Be aware of the shape of the hexagon so that you get your longer sides matched up.

Once that piece is in place, you can glue the other hexagon shaped panel on the top to cover the exposed tabs.

Optional Candy Corn Embellishment

To finish our candy corn box, we added glue dots around the base of the lid to hold a ribbon in place and tied a knot off center on one of the longer sides.
