Organizing Leftover Paper Scraps in a Space-Saving Way

When it comes to paper crafting, it’s common to accumulate a plethora of leftover paper scraps. Finding efficient ways to organize these scraps not only saves space but also makes it easier to locate and utilize them in future projects. Here we have some suggestions for both staying organized and maximizing space. Depending on your style and space available, hopefully something here is useful for your craft organizing efforts!

Note: Paper Scraps

We recommend having a minimum size that you keep. We choose to only keep pieces that are a minimum of 3×3 inches. Anything smaller we feel is less likely to be useable. Remember to occasionally assess your paper scraps and discard any that are too small or unusable. By finding the scrap-saving organization method right for you, you can make the most of your leftover paper scraps and keep your crafting area tidy and efficient.

We also choose to only use this method for storing plain cardstock, not patterned paper. We return any scraps of patterned paper to the corresponding paper pack for later use.

1. 3 Ring Binder And Page Protectors

Consider using a 3 ring binder with plastic page protectors to store your paper scraps. Sort them by color or theme and insert them into the appropriate sleeves. This method allows you to easily flip through and find the exact scrap you need, while also keeping them neatly organized and protected.

2. Accordion File Organizer

Create a filing system using an accordion folder. Label each section a color or theme, and place the corresponding paper scraps inside. This method is particularly useful if you have limited space. We also use this system for organizing scrapbooking memorabilia. Each kid, holiday, and annual event gets a section. This makes it easy to find the relevant pieces so they don’t get forgotten or lost.

3. Clear Plastic Storage Drawers

We’ve chosen to invest in clear plastic storage containers with drawers. Sort your paper scraps by color and store them in separate sections. This system takes up more space but allows us to store or scraps flat. It also was the easiest system (we’ve tried them all!) for searching through the scraps finding what we need. We have three stacked on top of a filling cabinet (the photo on the right above is of our drawer system) and we’ve taped a small piece of paper to show the color inside. Eight are dedicated to a color, with the ninth one reserved for specialty papers such as metallic, and glitter. The small one you see in the photos, we use for premade card bases, envelopes, and other stationary items.
