Materials Used

We used several products and supplies in the making of our fun Halloween pumpkin decoration. Below is a list of what we used.

Organizing The Side Panels

To start assembling our basket, we grouped our side pieces into two sets.  Each set had one side panel with the two holes for a handle and two side panels without the holes.  We then arranged each set as shown below, the panel that has the handle holes in the middle. By doing this, we made sure that the final assembly would have these pieces opposite each other.

Attaching The Basket Side Panels

To attach the panels, we added glue to the long tab and attached it to the next panel.  We did this for each set of three (one set shown above) then, attached them together end to end to make our basket sides.

Closing The Bottom Of The Basket

We then folded the bottom tabs in and added glue.  There are two bottom panels, they are identical, so it doesn’t matter which one goes on the inside of the bucket and which is on the outside.  We dropped one into the bucket and lined the straight sides of the panel up with each of the bottom tabs, then pressed down.  Once this was secure, we turned the bucket over, added glue to the other bottom panel and covered the exposed tabs.  Having two pieces at the bottom helps make the bottom a lot stronger so anything you put in later is a little more secure.

Adding The Rings

Our next step was to add the rings that go around the bucket.  There are three sets and at first it’s hard to tell which set goes where.  To help keep track, we added a square cut out to the tabs on the largest ring, a circular cut out to the tabs on the middle ring, and no cut out to the tabs on the smallest ring.

For the first ring, we attached each piece, end to end until we had a ring.  We then added glue around the top outer part of the bucket, right near the edge, placed the bucket face down on the table, then slid the large ring into place, making sure to get the ring flush with the top of the bucket.

Our next step was to assemble the middle ring.  This one is a little tricker to glue into place.  We didn’t mark where it’ll land on the bucket because the thickness of the paper used has some impact on that.  Instead we placed the bucket upside down on the table and slid the middle ring into place until we felt it was snug but not deforming the sides of the bucket.  Once we had it where we wanted it to be, we pinched it in place with one hand and slid glue inbetween the ring and the bucket with the other. We did this to several sides where the bucket and ring overlap so it is secured in place.

Finally, we assembled the last ring for the bucket, added a line of glue round the outside bottom, then slid the smallest ring in place.

Adding The Handles

The final step in assembly was attaching the handles to the bucket. We used two brads for each handle then played with the angle the handle sits to encourage it to tip outward from the bucket.
